Learn it properly
Developing barbers learn the BAR X BAR approach to technique, consultation and looking after clients before taking a chair independently.

The story behind BAR X BAR
Ton began cutting hair at the young age of 13. More than fifteen years later, he is the founder and owner of BAR X BAR—and still a working barber. He set out to bring proper barbering to Sydney in shops people genuinely enjoyed being in. That purpose still shapes the vibe of every BAR X BAR store.
Founder · Owner · Barber
Ton began cutting hair at 13. What started as an early obsession with the craft became years spent learning how technical detail, trust and conversation shape the experience in the chair.
BAR X BAR is shaped by that everyday work of barbering: listening properly, understanding the client and how they want to look and feel, and delivering a finish that still works once they leave the shop.
For Ton, the experience around the cut matters too. A BAR X BAR shop should feel considered but never stiff—a local place where skill, hospitality and conversation belong together.
That approach runs through the whole business—from how the team is chosen and supported to how every client is welcomed into the shop.
The culture comes from the people in it: the barbers, the clients and the conversations happening every day. Skill matters, but so does character, generosity, and the way people treat each other.
Ton is still behind the chair while running the business, working alongside the team across Manly, Bondi Beach and Freshwater.

The BAR X BAR standard
It changes the way you walk back out into the world.
Our barbers take the time to understand your hair, your routine and the way you want to carry yourself. Every detail is deliberate - from the first consultation to the final line-up.
We leave enough room in the appointment to do the job properly. Ton is still in the shops, the team knows the regulars, and nobody is pushed to rush a finish just to turn the chair over.
How the standard is kept
Consistency is built deliberately. From a barber’s first days with BAR X BAR to years behind the chair, the work keeps being developed, discussed and refined. That ongoing exchange is how strong individual barbers become a reliable standard across every shop.

Education continues as tools, techniques and styles evolve. Experience is respected, but nobody is treated as finished.
Senior barbers review the work, share direct feedback and help keep the standard steady across every chair and every shop.
The journey so far
Each shop has its own neighbourhood and rhythm. The BAR X BAR approach remains consistent: take the time, do the work properly and give people a place worth returning to.
